WIN a signed copy of Dear John, The John Lloyd Autobiography By John Lloyd with Phil Jones

John Lloyd was the poster boy of British tennis - a former British number one, Grand Slam finalist, Wimbledon mixed-doubles champion and Davis Cup captain.

Remarkably, he and his two brothers, David (of leisure club fame) and Tony, all played in the singles championship at Wimbledon in the same year: a testament to the parents who believed in their sons' dreams as the boys batted tennis balls against a garage wall in Essex.

Told with humour and honesty, John's autobiography is filled with intimate insight and captivating tales of Hollywood celebrities, tennis icons, broadcasting greats and loves lost - from his marriage to the legendary Chris Evert and dealings with Donald Trump to his sobering battle with cancer and drug addiction at the heart of his family.

As the story unfolds, the John of today sends letters of advice to his former self in a yearnful act of 'if I only knew then what I know now'. What we now know for certain is that John Lloyd has lived an extraordinary life.

Dear John is the story of John Lloyd’s amazing life on and off the tennis court – a cocktail of heady days of fame, celebrity marriage and childhood dreams fulfilled, underpinned by the bedrock of family, enduring friendships and a survivor’s instinct. Read and you will discover:

  • How injury almost ended John’s tennis ambitions before his career had even started

  • When one cruel defeat almost led to John drowning in a Wimbledon bath

  • Why marrying tennis superstar Chris Evert derailed his own playing career

  • How a routine medical turned into the biggest battle of his life

  • Why John did not become a millionaire from his brother David’s leisure club empire

  • How John came to watch films weekly with the likes of Dolly Parton and Lionel Richie

  • The dark days of having to leave his son in a drug-abuse facility

  • Why Wimbledon brought out the worst in John until he found a rabbit to help

  • How working with Donald Trump brought an amusing lesson in man-management

John Lloyd has collaborated with Phil Jones to write his life story. Phil is a broadcast journalist and lecturer who presented a daily global sports show for CNN in the United States for almost eight years, covered Wimbledon for more than two decades and spent 11 years as the BBC's trackside athletics reporter, including the famous 'Super Saturday' at London 2012. Phil has presented and reported at eight Olympic Games and the football World Cup.
