Regular visitors to London will have their favourite hotels: for business, for pleasure, for escape. Ours is the very British bolthole of DUKES London.
Tucked away in the heart of Mayfair, this 90-room, world-leading classic hotel (according to the World Travel Awards 2016 for the last five years) welcomes us with just the right amount of familiarity and professionalism.
Travelling alone on business, I enjoy a Duchess room with Beditation Butler service. Having travelled through London, via the Canary Wharf and Mayfair office, I am ready for a little me-time, whether that’s a quiet table in the restaurant, cocktail at the bar (said to have inspired Ian Fleming for James Bond’s signature martini) with the ever-charming barman Alessandro, or a herbal tea in my living room.
The hotel is nestled away in a cobbled courtyard, so I tend to relax as soon as I am welcomed through the door. Nevertheless, on my last visit I was delighted to hear that The Beditation Butler mindful room service was now in full swing, including a selection of handmade herbal teas, a bath drawn with relaxing Floris London bath essences and in-room podcasts and playlists to encourage meditation before curling up in the sumptuous bed with DUKESY, the toy sausage dog, beside you. And better still, as part of the package (£45) you also get a DUKES Floris London candle to take home. Sometimes it’s little extra touches that count.
Speaking of sausage dogs, there’s another new package we are looking to try out – this time one for the four-legged VIPs. From just £25 extra per night per dog (under 24kg), four-legged friends are welcomed by the hotel’s own dedicated concierge team, and benefit from their own doggy menu and luxurious bed in your room, also with turndown and dental bedtime treat. You can also use 24-hour dog sitting and dog walking, personal shopping or grooming.
The hotel has also just had a multi-million pound refurbishment, including a first-of-its-kind collaboration with iconic Liberty fabrics, so I am looking forward to returning this summer to see it in all its refurbished glory.
