We talk to local luxury pool construction experts, Portrait Pools, to hear how they’re pushing the boundaries when it comes to adding a touch of glamour to your home
It goes without saying that an indoor or outdoor pool is a thoroughly glamorous (and practical) way of injecting an extra ounce of luxury into your home – great fun, perfect for parties and an excellent fitness incentive, with the added bonus of making the occasional British heatwave all the more bearable (and helping to ease beach withdrawal between holidays). And, of course, there’s the fact that, if constructed professionally, a pool is likely to add value to your home – not to mention that, in today’s luxury market, houses worth over a certain amount are usually expected to come with all the obvious extras, luxury pools probably being near the top of the list.
But where do you start? There are quite literally hundreds of options when it comes to choosing your pool – indoor or outdoor? Should you have an automatic pool cover? A rolling or floating floor (both of which allow you to replace the pool with a sturdy floor at the touch of a button)? And that’s before you even start to think about shapes, designs and tile patterns. If ever there were a good time to call in the experts, it’s now.
Enter local luxury pool construction company Portrait Pools, based in Bollington and established by current directors Andrew Rutherford and David Bland in 1990. Specialising in high-end, state-of-the-art swimming pools, what started as a two-man operation has grown into one of the leading UK pool-building companies, designing and installing luxury pools, spas, experience rooms, wetrooms/bathrooms and wellness equipment.
With many a majestic Cheshire property boasting the company’s handiwork – as well as a host of properties elsewhere in the UK – Portrait Pools’ reputation was well and truly cemented at January’s 2017 British Pool & Hot Tub Awards, hosted by the British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association (BISHTA) and the Swimming Pool and Allied Trades Association (SPATA). As the big winners of the night, the company came away with an incredible ten awards, including the ‘Commercial Pool of the Year’ bronze and silver awards, as well as two silvers in the ‘Residential Indoor Pools £100,000 - £150,000’, and in ‘Residential Indoor Pools £150,000 - £200,000’ catagories – although the crowning glory was the brand’s five gold awards, for ‘Refurbishment Pool of the Year’, ‘Residential Indoor Pools £150,000 - £200,000’, ‘Residential Indoor Pool over £200,000’, ‘Pool Contractor of the Year’ and ‘Outstanding Pool of the Year’.
For those considering adding a bespoke pool or another of the company’s various offerings to their home, the most exciting news comes in the form of the new showroom which recently opened on Store Street, just off Bollington High Street. Here, all the various options are clearly displayed – from the latest stretch ceiling with smart lighting technology to an enormous range of ideas, finishes and tiles. There are also examples of a fully functioning cinema room, a state-of-the-art meeting/boardroom for potential clients, architects, contractors and interior designers, as well as a working steam and sauna room and a spa pool, so you can get a taste of what to add to your wishlist. A building adjacent to the showroom is also currently being transformed into what the team cryptically describe as ‘something a little bit different’ – but to find out exactly what, you’ll just have to wait and see.
